I wasn't sure which blog to post this to as it really belongs on both pages, The Kennedy Compound and Grand View Stock Farm. So, I'll just post in both places in case there is anyone out there who reads only one or the other.

First, and foremost...A very happy father's day to all of the important fathers in my life. Matt/Daddy, Donnie/Papa, and Maury/Grandpa: I hope you all know how much Steve and I love you and how wonderful we think you are. Life would not be as fantastic as it is without you.

We have returned home and settled back in after a weekend at the Farm. I decided a while ago that I wanted to surprise Papa for the weekend and we were successful! It took a lot of work on Nana's part, but we managed to get to the farm on Friday afternoon before Papa rode in on his (new) motorcycle. After hugs and kisses all around, we headed off to the Carbon Bar for dinner. Jake and Emily were waiting there to surprise Papa as well. We had bonfires, boat rides, truck driving, ATV riding, and all sorts of other fun things for the weekend.

It is always bittersweet for me at the farm. I miss Grandpa (my grandpa, not Steve's) so very much when we are there, but then I see Steve exploring and discovering and loving everything there, which I know is what should happen. One of the moments that hit home the most was Steve discovering the "shoe chair". Grandpa had a specific chair for putting on and taking off his shoes. But how would Steve know this? Regardless, from Friday night until Sunday morning, every time we put on or took off Steve's shoes, he would sit in that chair, as if he really did know somehow.

Bedtimes at the farm were a little rough. Steve just wasn't sure he needed to go to bed. After much arguing and attempts at persuasion, he did finally settle down and slept straight through both mights. He didn't even wake up if he had lost his pacifier. We did have early mornings, but that was okay. It just meant more of the day for us to enjoy!

The drive home today was mostly uneventful...until Rockford, Illinois. We had stopped about 20 minutes before that in Rochelle, to gas up. Matt noticed that the tires looked a little low on air, so he added some, especially to the passenger side front tire. Unfortunately, that didn't prevent the tire from blowing a little farther down the road. I was driving and it was the first time that has happened to me. Matt complimented me on my reaction and getting off the road quickly, but not too quickly. Steve wasn't happy though when we were both out of the car working to change the tire and he had to be in the car. We made it home safe, just a little later than we had hoped.

Even though I was out of school all of last week, Steve was still at daycare Monday through Thursday. This week, though, he starts his reduced schedule. He will only be going 2 days each week, mostly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays will be filled with library visits, zoo trips, pool and sprinkler time, and learning! Something seems to have clicked in his brain this weekend and new words were flowing out of him with only a couple of repetitions. An example: When we arrived at the farm on Friday, there were 2 frogs on the door. He heard me saw frog a few times as I tried to shoo them away (I failed...one ended up in the house, under the dryer). The rest of the night he was asking where the frog was...and using the word "frog". He's is too smart for my own good some days!

The one down in the weekend was Saturday night when we were all out for ice cream. Steve got a little sassy and decided it was okay to hit me. I assure you, it is NOT okay to hit me. We immediately left the restaurant and sat in time out on a bench outside. As soon as we had our understanding about not hitting, he was allowed to go back in. There wasn't any more hitting, that's for sure!

I've included a few of my favorite pictures from the weekend here, but you can see all of them in the June album. I'm hoping that Nana will post hers soon as well (she has the boat ride pictures) and I'll post a link for that.
