Father's Day at the Farm

Well, we did it. Angie has been planning since Easter and I've been plotting with her to surprise Donnie for Father's Day. My nose has grown a foot this last week with secret shopping trips and a trip to the farm to prepare. He was speechless when he rode in Friday night and Steve, Angie and Matt were there to greet him. Then we headed to Carbon for supper and when he opened the door - Jake and Emily were there! It was a great weekend spent remembering, making new memories, and planning for the future. Donnie is a great Father and his kids never miss a chance to tell him or show him. Thanks Jake, Emily, Angie, Matt and Steve!

After our super Friday night, we had a bonfire with the appropriate adult beverages and a beautiful sunset.

Saturday Donnie did almost all of his favorite things, including: garage "saling", fishing, eating, spending quality time with the kids and Steve, (maybe I had some time in there too), ice cream, weed eating and chopping wood.

Tammy, Valerie and Catharine came down Saturday for the day to see Angie and us too. We all spoiled Catharine, had some pretty good BBQ ribs and then headed to the Fickle Frog for some shopping. It is great shop and we all brought treasurers home.
Steve enjoyed his first boat ride on the pond and Papa caught a 2 1/2 pound bass to make it even more memorable. Steve got his sea legs rather quickly and was ready to crawl over the side into the pond. Jake and Emily checked out the back forty via ATV. The afternoon was well-spent.

Jake, Emily and I went on a field trip to the Mt. Etna Cemetery and Mt. Etna. Emily had never been there (where my Mom and Dad are buried). The Cemetery has the most beautiful oak tree I've ever seen in Iowa. Check it out sometime. We decided it is a hobbit tree. No doubt.

Saturday night was another bonfire which served as the stove because we had a smorsgasboard of hot dogs courtesy of the kids. It was a feast! We headed to MC Grille for ice cream and then Jake and Emily headed home.

Today we had breakfast at the Beach (Lake Icaria) before the Wisconsin kids had to head out. If you are in the Corning area on the weekends, check out the beach breakfast. You sit right on the lake and the food is very good. There is also a fun play ground which Steve and I checked out. The only bad part was that he had to have a complete clothes change before we could get in the truck. (Darn sand!)

Everyone is home safe and sound. We used every corner of the house and it served us well. I ignored the weeds in the flower beds and just spent the weekend doing Nana things - cooking, planning, nurturing. It was GRAND!

Can't wait for the next family weekend!
